I always remember Red Clover when I was young. It was always present in fields I frequently played in as a child. Sometimes I would pick the flowers off, similar to how we would pull the tops off of dandelions. But…. back then I had no clue that these magnificent plants had incredible healing power. Red clover is commonly found in pastures, lawns, along roadsides, and in meadows. Many consider it a nuisance and try to eliminate it from their lawns, although this may not be easily accomplished because of its hearty nature.
Red Clover is primarily nutritive, but it also supports proper lymphatic function, immune support, healthy skin, and proper endocrine function. Since this plant is so nutritionally complex, it is probably best to use it in its unadulterated form as an extract or tea. The plant material used for teas and extracts include the flowers and top portion of the plant. Right near the top – you clip off the budding flowers and some of the plant itself. It’s important to harvest when the flowers are in full bloom. Don’t harvest near roadways, in chemically treated lawns, or near a heavily sprayed farming area. You certainly don’t want to add to your toxic burden by ingesting chemically contaminated Red Clover.
During my recent Master Herbalist course, I was excited to learn that Red Clover safely removes silicone from the body. Those that are suffering with breast implant illness will greatly benefit by drinking Red Clover tea after explant. It’s not advised prior to explant when your detox pathways are not working efficiently. But four months after explant would certainly benefit you. I drink two cups a day on a pretty regular basis, but also take breaks occasionally to give my body a “break” from removing silicone. This provides the organs with a much needed break. YES your organs get tired too. Especially if there is much detoxing to be accomplished.
The use of Red Clover probably originated in Europe, where it was used as an expectorant and a diuretic. Early Christians revered the red clover because they associated its three leaves with the Trinity. The ancient Chinese dried the flowers and put them in pillows to help relax the body and mind. Native Americans used red clover as an infusion (heavily steeped tea) gargle for sore throats, whooping cough, and asthma. They used it on children because it was a milder, safer way to fight debilitating childhood diseases.
