Beyond Fight or Flight: My Personal Journey and an Introduction to Somatica Formulas

When Life Keeps Us in Survival Mode

Throughout our lives, we all encounter seasons of stress, grief, and uncertainty. These experiences can profoundly affect our emotional wellness, sometimes leaving us feeling as though we’re simply trying to survive. When life becomes overwhelming, we often do what we must to get through each day without fully recognizing the impact prolonged stress may be having on our nervous systems.

As a Holistic Health Practitioner, I’ve long understood the importance of the connection between our emotional and physical well-being. But my own life experiences have given me an entirely new appreciation for just how deeply the two can be intertwined.

My journey has included several profoundly difficult seasons.

In 2019, my father passed away just two weeks before I was scheduled to undergo breast explant surgery. I was grieving his loss while facing serious health challenges of my own.

I remember feeling that I had to push my emotions as far away as possible so I could concentrate on recovering from surgery. My grief was very real, but at that moment, I felt I had no choice but to tuck it away.

When Grief and Stress Begin to Accumulate.

Then came another devastating chapter.

For 22 months, my family and I did everything within our power to help my brother, Steve, who was struggling through an incredibly difficult time. During those months, I lived with an almost constant sense of fear, wondering whether my worst nightmare might become reality.

In August 2023, we lost Steve to suicide.

The emotional impact was unlike anything I had ever experienced.

And just when it seemed we had already endured so much, another health crisis unfolded. My husband and I became seriously ill, eventually discovering that mold exposure in our home was part of what we were dealing with. We ultimately made the difficult decision to leave our home behind.

Looking back, I can see how these experiences created layer upon layer of emotional and physical stress.

One thing I’ve learned is that our bodies and emotions cannot always be neatly separated.

Prolonged stress and trauma can influence the nervous system, affecting everything from sleep and digestion to muscle tension, energy, and our ability to feel calm and settled.

That doesn’t mean every physical symptom originates in our emotions. Physical illness has many possible causes, and appropriate medical evaluation remains essential. But our emotional well-being is an important part of the bigger picture.

Understanding the Nervous System’s Response to Stress

Our autonomic nervous system plays an important role in how we respond to the world around us.

When we perceive danger or experience significant stress, the sympathetic nervous system helps prepare us for action. This is commonly known as the fight-or-flight response.

Our heart rate may increase, our muscles may tense, and our bodies become more alert.

This is a natural and necessary survival mechanism.

But what happens when difficult circumstances continue for months or even years?

Prolonged stress can contribute to changes in sleep, emotional regulation, digestion, and our overall sense of well-being. Some people find themselves feeling constantly on edge, while others experience exhaustion, withdrawal, or difficulty relaxing.

The parasympathetic nervous system, which supports rest and recovery, is another essential part of this balance.

Learning to support our nervous system through appropriate rest, nutrition, movement, supportive relationships, and stress-management practices can be an important part of our overall wellness journey.

And sometimes, our own experiences inspire us to explore additional approaches.

Why Somatica Formulas Captured My Attention

Recently, a fellow practitioner introduced me to Somatica Formulas, a company offering three formulations called Release, Regulate, and Restore.

As a Holistic Health Practitioner who also works with bioresonance, I was naturally intrigued by the company’s frequency-based approach to wellness.

But my interest went much deeper than professional curiosity.

I was interested for myself.

After experiencing so many difficult and traumatic events within a relatively short period, I had become increasingly aware of how profoundly prolonged stress had affected my sense of well-being.

I wanted to explore ways to support my nervous system as I continued navigating my own healing journey.

What caught my attention about Somatica Formulas was its focus on emotional patterns, nervous system regulation, and the relationship between our experiences and our physical well-being.

I’ve recently begun using the company’s Regulate formula, and I plan to document my experience as I go.

I’ll be paying attention to my emotional responses, my ability to relax, my overall sense of well-being, and any changes I notice physically.

Although I’m hopeful, I’m also approaching this as a personal exploration.

My hope is to share what I learn with you, both through my personal experiences and through continued research.

With that in mind, I’d love to introduce you to the three formulations that initially captured my attention.

Introducing Three Somatica Formulas

Somatica’s Regulate, Release & Restore remedies were developed around a different aspect of emotional wellness, according to the company’s descriptions.

1. Release — Sovereign Blend

Release is presented as a formulation focused on emotional burdens and patterns associated with resentment, difficult personal experiences, and a diminished sense of personal autonomy.

Its central theme is the idea of releasing what we have carried emotionally and reconnecting with our own sense of self.

For someone who has experienced prolonged stress or difficult relationships, this concept may feel especially meaningful.

2. Regulate — Nervous System Blend

Regulate is the formulation I have personally chosen to begin exploring.

According to Somatica, it is designed around themes such as hypervigilance, excessive caretaking, personal boundaries, and emotional safety.

These are experiences that may resonate with people who have spent extended periods caring for others, navigating uncertainty, or feeling continually responsible for circumstances beyond their control.

For me, this formulation stood out because I wanted to pay closer attention to my own experience of calm, emotional balance, and nervous system well-being.

I’m just beginning this process, so I don’t yet have conclusions to share.

3. Restore — Repatterning Blend

Restore is presented as a formulation centered on recovery from difficult experiences, including themes related to medical trauma, panic, and feelings of defeat.

The company’s description also references immune dysregulation, although this should not be interpreted as evidence that the formulation can treat immune disorders.

The broader concept behind Restore is the possibility of moving forward after experiences that have left us feeling overwhelmed or depleted.

An important distinction: These descriptions reflect Somatica’s intended wellness themes, not clinically established treatment effects. I encourage readers to review ingredients, product information, and available evidence before deciding whether any formulation is appropriate for them.

My Personal Exploration Begins

One of the reasons I wanted to write this article was to share valuable information while I’m still in the process of learning about it.

As practitioners, we often spend so much time helping others that we can overlook the importance of tending to our own well-being.

My experiences have reminded me that caring for ourselves deserves the same attention and compassion we extend to others.

I don’t know yet what my experience with Regulate will look like.

What I do know is that I want to approach this season of my life with curiosity, patience, and a willingness to continue learning.

I plan to share observations as I go, including what I notice, what I don’t notice, and what questions arise along the way.

I believe there is value in having thoughtful conversations about emotional wellness, the nervous system, and the many ways we can care for ourselves.

Continuing the Conversation

Perhaps you’ve experienced a season of life when you felt as though you were simply trying to survive from one day to the next.

Maybe you’ve spent years caring for someone else, navigating chronic illness, grieving a loss, or carrying responsibilities that left little room for your own emotional needs.

If so, I hope this article reminds you of the importance of making space for your own well-being.

I’ll continue exploring Somatica Formulas and sharing what I learn. As I become more familiar with the products, their ingredients, and their intended uses, I look forward to discussing them further.

And if you’re curious about whether a particular herbal or natural wellness approach might be appropriate for your individual needs, you’re always welcome to reach out.

Healing is rarely a straight line. Sometimes it begins with recognizing just how much we’ve been carrying and giving ourselves permission to care for ourselves, too.

With love and encouragement,

Sheila
